Olga Jurgenson

Olga Jürgenson has been practicing as an artist since 1992 and has enjoyed an interesting journey from her Fine Art education focusing on Socialist Realism in St. Petersburg, Russia to current work as a contemporary New Media and Installation artist living and working in the UK.

Jürgenson has held several solo exhibitions and has participated in group exhibitions and festivals across Europe, The Far East, Africa and Australia. These include: ‘Wind Art’ Festival in Seoul (South Korea), ‘Global Fusion 2005’ in Melbourne (Australia), ‘Paradise in Bunker’ in Kunstbunker Tumulka, Munich (Germany), ‘Compilation Europe’ in Vienna (Austria), ‘The Good and the Bad’, as a part of Liverpool Biennial, UK, ‘All St. Petersburg’ in St. Petersburg (Russia), Russian Cultural Institute in Vienna, Austria; City Gallery in Tallinn, Estonia; Borey Arts Centre gallery in St Petersburg, Russia, Peterborough Museum and Art Gallery in the UK and others.

Jürgenson has received several grants in Estonia, KulturKontakt in Vienna, Austria, Stiftung Kulturfonds in Germany, European Cultural Foundation in Amsterdam, Holland, Kultuurkapital in Estonia and Arts Council England East in the UK; she undertook several international residencies and fellowships including pARTage in Mauritius, Artists House Lucas in Ahrenshoop, Germany, KulturKontakt in Vienna, Austria, PVA Labculture at IDAT, University of Plymouth, UK and Peterborough Digital Arts, UK.

New media has formed a dominant component of her practice since 1999. In her current practice she works across a range of media and disciplinary boundaries. In recent and current projects she has developed work in the areas of Installation, Projected Video, Photography and Digital Printmaking, Painting, Sculpture, Sound and Performance.

She is currently working on issues, which question serious social and political issues, but at the same time are accessible for a wider public by being both engaging and entertaining.

Olga’s collaborative (with Mare Tralla) installation/ exhibition is currently at the City Gallery in Tallinn, Estonia, and forthcoming events include a residency and a solo exhibition in King’s Lynn Arts Centre, participation in the exhibitions in Moscow, Tallinn and at Iniva, London.
